Taken in tablas de Daimiel National Park, C Spain. Sitting on the shoe of a friend Grin on the 15th April 2012. Habitat is stony shot grassy ground near lagoons.

It looks different to any Asilid I have ever seen. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks a lot, Reinoud!! Smile

Could you confirm that this other specimen found in the same area on the following day is also Dysmachus trigonus? I think it is but I prefer to have the opinion of an expert Wink

Yes it is Dysmachus cf trigonus. I have added the cf because many bristles on thorax and legs are reddish they are usually more white. Shape of ovipositor is tipical for D. trigonus.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
