Is it possible to confirm the identity of this Anthomyia species?

Thanks,
André

As far as I understand it, the separation of the lateral spots makes it likely to be A. pluvialis but, because the extent of the black markings is quite variable in all these species, you can never be certain without a microscopic examination of the genitalia.

"sp." or "cf" to be on the save side.Frown

I am now saying goodbye to the only certainty I had concerning Anthomyia. Frown

Thanks Stephen.

I may well be too cautious. But I think uncertainty is a very healthy condition, to be preserved whenever the evidence permits. Grin

I really don't know whether individuals with separated spots ever turn out to be other than pluvialis (especially in the south of Spain!) It's at least worth a 'cf' Wink

Grin Yes, Stephen. Happens to me in the same way: the more I know the better I know that I don't know anything and things are far more difficult than I thought initially.

I will edit the title to the more appealing "cf. pluvialis".Wink

Thanks again, Stephen.

Ciao,
André
