Spilogona marginifera from Holland

Member Location: Amstelveen, the Netherlands Posts: 830 Joined: 14.10.06	The fly on these photos was tentatively identified as Spilogona spec. Can the ID be narrowed down to species level? Medium size, I guess (but I'm bad at it!) some 7 - 8 mm. Habitat rather special, inland sand-drift (large stretches of open sand without much vegetation) with a.o. European beachgrass. It is almost for sure in the Limnophorini tribe, Spilogona or Limnophora (not Neolimnophora nor Villeneuvia though). The broad parafacialiae reminds me of Spilogona marginifera, but it doesn't seem to be this species. I don't know if you collect flies, but this one would be interesting ! Stephane.

We (I went with Joke van Erkelens) saw only very few and managed to capture only one male. Joke identified it as, indeed, Spilogona marginifera conform Stephane's hunch.
