I think not, Theo, T. tergestinus should have three bands on eyes and also the shape of flagellum is different, but a part from that I'm completely lost. Are you sure at least is Tabanus? Thanks, Libor: aprox. 13 mm. The "frontal index" measured from the last photo (although knowing is not a good way) is 4

No, Philipomyia has linear callus. It is clearly Tabanus from maculicornis group. Maybe T. mikii, but I am not sure... T. mikii has posterior four tibiae brown, your animal probably only on basal half? Theo, where are you? Do you agree with me? |

The eyes are bare, so no Hybomitra. Revive the eyes by putting the specimen in a moist box for 8 - 12 hours. My bet: you will see 3 eyebands. Theo |
