Hi,

Meromyza is a difficult genus, but this one from yellow flowers, in the dunes might be identified?
Size is 7mm (collected)

Thank you!
It larvae seem to live in Ammophila, since the dunes are full of this, it is very plausible.

the one on the link seems to be another species; M.ornata.

Bye, Jonas

It can't be M. pratorum, I think. Why you thought about this species, Sara?
Jonas, is it really 7 mm?

Well it is part of key (M. pratorum):
protruding part of frons (viewed in profile) greater than length of 3rd segment of ant. or equal to it; width of parafacial not less than width of 3rd segment of ant. Occiput without dark pattern. Stripes of msn. narrow, black; .....
But in my key I don't have ornata species..!!!!! Frown

Edit: Please see
http://www.catalogueoflife.org/details/species/id/8721520
In this site I couldn't find any species with name of ornata!!!!! I am really curious about another ideas?? Thanks

Hi,
it measures exactly 7 mm...
I caught some other ones, which were as big as this one.

Bye,
Jonas

Hi Sara, you have sororcula in your key. That's the older name of ornata.
But there seems to be a dark pattern on the occiput on the 2nd picture? Moreover, 7 mm is quite big for all species present in my key (the same key as Sara uses). But of course, a species can be bigger than the sizes in the key.
I think the best option for Jonas to get a name is sending it to an expert. For me, these are all speculations, as I'm far from experienced with this groupSmile
Best wishes, Niels-Jan
