Can anyone help with ID for this one, please.

I've got as far as similarities to Chlorops strigulus, but I'm not sure that is correct or who this might be.

This was found a few days ago in Berkshire, UK. It was in a boggy field on tall grasses, close to deciduous woodland.

Hi Jonathan
I don't think so, and I think it is C. cf anthracophagoideus...!
But about species I'm not sure, because for ID Chlorops need to have samples in the hand and it's difficult by picture.. Smile

Thank you Sara. However, I cannot find any mention of Chlorops anthracophagoideas, is that spelling correct?

Sorry Jonathan, the correct spell is anthracophagoideus
but that was just a guess by a picture and you should be sure about that.. Smile

Chlorops ?frontosus Meigen, 1830, Chloropidae. I correct my post of 05-06-2011 after I checked:
http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=52911 ; base of arista is yellowish.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
