As far as I know only P. crococoronatus and P. versicolor are known from the Iberian peninsula with certainty. Records of P. frutetorum are still doubtful. With this picture I cannot give an identification. Do you have other views of the specimen? A better view of the head and hind femora would be useful.

Sorry, I still cannot see the critical characters. Howver, itīs not P. crococoronatus, because in that species the two submedian dust spots on tergite 3 are connected with the median dust spot on the posterior margin of that tergite; in the specimen on the picture they are clearly separated. In order to see if it's P. frutetorum or P. versicolor the hairs on the vertex and occiput should be well visible.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
