I'm going through old stuff to make a list of sightings for the County Recorder - they don't seem to have any accessible Diptera records. I have this one filed as O. germinationis, but the abdomen colour looks like recent postings of O. petrei. How should I name it?

FWIW, this female was photographed (sic Frown) at the same place within a few minutes.

It's not uncommon to find both species at the same location. The first one really looks like O. petrei and the second like O. germinationis.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
