The following images show the fly and pupa. It emerged from a pupa that was obtained from a Noctuid moth larva. Location Shropshire, UK. Length of fly approx 8-9 mm. Welcome to the forum Adrian - some nice photos there. Could you also post some more photos that show the whole fly? The face only tells us maybe 30% of the information we need for an ID Also, when did it emerge and was it in natural conditions or indoors? Thank you for the welcome Chris, just having a look at the other raw images to see if there are any decent views of the whole insect, will post up any I find. The fly larva emerged from the caterpillar in captivity on the 10th or 11th February (the time between changing the caterpillars foodplant), found the pupa on 13th. The Caterpillar had only been brought into captivity a week before, 4th February. The room where they were kept was cool with only slight background warmth. Adrian |
