Here are a few photos from Stéphane Brule in French Guiana. I am pretty sure that I have got the family correct and I don't expect miracles but could anyone suggest a subfamily maybe? Smile

I know these are hopeless, but does not the firs one bring in mind Winthemini? Latter appear relatives of Microsoma? Cute! If I´ve understood correclty, there are many neotropical taxons that do not fit to any described subfamily...

Well, yes I think the first might be Winthemiini ... possibly, but just from the overall shape. I have lots of similar things that are really hard even to morphotype because they are so anonymous. The second could be Phasinae (close to Trichopodini) ... but it is a bad angle.

I think most neotropical tachinids can be taken as far as subfamily but tribe is a little more problematic. But out of the 2000-3000 specimens I showed Monty there was only 1 very small taxon that he agreed was a tachinid but couldn't assign to a subfamily. Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
