Terrible picture, but interesting Dolichopodidae fly as it is only yellow with green eyes.
Someone knows the name of this fly...?
Picture is made 14-7-2008 in Zeist, Holland

Dear Hedy2411,

Only two species of Xanthochlorus (ornatus, tenellus) are known from The Netherlands, although two additional species have been collected in the UK. I would not be too sure, but it's probable that you are dealing with X. tenellus. Only the male can help you out, here.

Cheers,
Marc

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
