If i am not mistaken, these wings belong to S. variegata. For determination, i used the online keys of this site again, but one thing is not clear to me. The key states: Cross veins and radial vein shaded with a subapical suffusion across distal area of longutudinal veins. The shading of the cross veins is obvious, as is the shading of the radial vein. What part is meant with subapical suffusion across distal area of the longitudinal veins?

Can anyone indicate that to me?

Thanks in advance.

No, this is not variegata. Please, look at the pics of variegata in the gallary or just google them. You'll see that the dark area's in the wing are very typical.
But there are more Suiilia with marked wings. Often de cross veins are more or less darkened. Sometimes also the end of the longitudinal veins, as is obvious with the fly in your photo.

Do you have more photo's?

Thanks Ruud, i see where i went wrong. Mesopleuron and pteropleuron are bare, so variegata is excluded. Difference in wing coloration is also clear now. I think i understand what is meant with subapical suffusion across distal area of the longitudinal veins, because variegate seems to have much more coloration on the tip of the wings.

I will try again....

Jan

Thanks Andrzej.

S. similis is of course missing from the online keys, until now my only source for determination.

Dull frons you say. Does that mean dusted or just not shiny? When i compare the frons to the frons of the only other Suillia i have so far, S. pallida, they are equally dull i would say.
