Hi,

I have plenty of pictures of this one, I met at night, attracted by the light on the terrace of the small house I spend most of my time while being in Brazil..rainforest Paraty-Brazil.
19-20th February 2010
It is the same fly, it just wouldn't stay in one place..
I guess it's one of these flies with countless look-a-likes but maybe a Genus name is possible?

Thank you,
MyriamSmile

The genus is easy - Belvosia (Goniini) - but the species is nearly impossible - even with a specimen ... a very confused genus made even more confusing after DNA work too, I hear Wink

Still, they are lovely flies and one of my favourites Smile

Would be nice to have it in the gallery, I think - also remember to change your titles if something is identified, so that we can find the thread in the future Wink

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
