Since the other two Hypoderma species in Britain are now deemed extinct, this is all it can be - the scutellum looks right.

Great fly, Jane, though a bit obnoxious, especially to roe deer!
You can delete the previous threads that failed to show the photo [use the "edit" button and then "delete thread"] to avoid them being clicked in vain.
