Hello

Location: Switzerland, at Lake Zurich, 412 müM, Border of a wood, on blackberry
size: 10 mm
Date: 29.09.09

I'm very happy that I'v got finally several good pics of Baccha elongata. Like always in shadow, but this time not flying all around - they were sitting on blooms of blackberry.

Best Regards and Thank you for your help all the time!

Yes, besides of fruits . . . I was wondering too. Such late flowers have no chance to grow to fruits.

We had some cold and unfriendly days (weeks), but now we do have wonderful warm and sunny autumn days. The nights are cold.

Switzerland is highly "clean" : all the small protected nature places near home are already mown, highmoore included. Also the borders of roads, borders of wood . . . difficult to find nice insects . . .

So I puted a lot of flowering plants on my balcony . . . I'm happy, today I could take some pics of a new (for me new) syrphidae :-) on my balcony . . . :-)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
