Hi

I saw this one here: http://maps.googl...1&z=18 at 1400 m
The head is just impressive! Frown The fly has about 5 mm.

What could this tachinid be?

Thanks!

It could be Phryxe.

If so, it is highly aberrant I see only DC 3+3.
It would key out to Ph. hirta (= setigera)

Hmm, yes ... an otherwise anonymous tachinid with: hairy eyes, dark palps, random median discals & erect apical scutellars would suggest Phryxe ... but I am hoping Jorge catches plenty in his new super Malaise trap and then we can all have a go at keying it! Wink

It is a very nice malaise trap, but with my hand still hurting... I cannot mount any malaise. Sad But this week or so, I will mount it. Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
