Hi,
Today I saw this nice fly and first thought of Miltogramminae, but wing venation looks more muscid-like. So I am at my wits' end and hope for your help.
Many thanks, Sundew

It looks to me like a muscid (no bend in the median vein) but the swollen frons could be due to it having recently emerged from the puparium ... possibly? Smile

Leucophora sounds good! So it is an Anthomyiid. May be it is teneral indeed. I took another pic of another fly, probably belonging to the same taxon, and its frons was not thus wide. (Unfortunately there is only this somewhat blurred photo.)

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
