Hi,

yesterday I took a few pictures of a medium-sized black fly on a leaf. My wild guess would be Fanniidae, maybe Fannia sp.. Can that be confirmed/excluded from the attached images?

Germany, Southern Bavaria, Garden in Munich (-West), 23.10.2023, app. 6-8 mm

Greetings, Uli

Hi Uli, I think it's not a Fannia and I guess it could be a male Hebecnema (Muscidae).

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
