Hello Forum, this one surely belongs to the Psychodidae. When looking through the internet, I found a picture of Ulomyia fuliginosa. It looks quite similar to this fly. Hagen, NRW, Germany, alder marshland, 175 msm, July 29th 2008, It would be nice, if there is anybody in our forum, who can confirm or disprove my assumption. U Fuliginosa is quite distinctive in the male sex, as it has a strange pocket on the wing, densely covered in dark scales. This is not it; hard to see enough details, but a guess (and only a guess) is Boreoclytocerus. It is virtually impossible to ID psychodids from pictures (especially as the scaling patterns are now considered irrelevant for identification purposes). |

Hello Phil, thank you very much for your help. Yesterday, I again saw a picture in the net that is quite similar to that shown here, again it was IDed as U. fulifginosa. I hope, you have the time to look at that picture as well. A assume, that there is a mistake on that page. http://www.evasion.it/Ulomyia_fuliginosa.htm Is there any comprehensive literture or a full key to determine the Psychodidae of Germany or Europe? You can use Vaillant fasicles in Die fliegen: these are a bit old now, and some genera have been added to. Alternatively, you could contact Rudiger Wagner, who probably knows the German fauna quite well. In any event, this is a group you can only do on slides (and in the male sex). |
