I found this, what I believe to be a form of Fruit Fly in my garden in July of last year, but have been unable to identify it.
I am a complerte amature, having just retired, and have developed a keen interest in all things small in my half acre garden in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, England.
This is one of a few I may need help with, so thank you all for any you can give in advance

Hi, Phil! Welcome!! Wink

Your fly is a Tephritidae indeed Smile Edit the title of your thread and name it Tephritidae for ID, to attract the attention of the experts in this family Wink

Goniglossum wiedemanni:
http://www.dipter...to_id=3371
In the background there looks to be a flower of Bryonia dioica which is the host plant for the larvae of G. wiedemanni.
