this photo was taken at Nugget Falls in Juneau Alaska on October 8, 2012. The falls empties into a glacier lake and their is much sand and debris pockets around. They were on the side of the main falls standing in a thin sheet of flowing water. I wonder if these flies belong to the family Dolichopodidae. If so this would be exciting because we have not seen them in the Juneau area and we would like to find their larvae.

Subfamily Clinocerinae of the Empididae. I am not familiar with the fauna of that area.
