anhaaah! this is the same container of water where I picked up the Ephydridae larvae posted in the larva forum.

I'd agree that it's very like Brachydeutera.

I believe this is Brachydeutera longipes, based on lateral coloration of thorax. This is a relatively recent introduction, reported by Mathis & Steiner 1986, where they found it from Maryland to Georgia.
