Hello!

Could I have some help with this specimen?
Can anyone give me some information about the differences between these species?

Looks to be a fairly typical pyrastri male.

S. pyrastri: "Blunt lunules reach further forwards at their inner end compared with the outer end. Females rarely with a black abdomen = var unicolor."

S. silentica: "Comma-like lunules, reaching further forwards at their outer end."

The only other two Scaeva spp on the UK checklist are S. albomaculata and S. mecogramma but these seem to be pretty rare vagrants.

Info from 'British Hoverflies' by Stubbs and Falk.

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
