I found this Nematocera fly inside home. The antenna looks as long as the body, about 1 or 1'5 cm long. Can Grau, Beuda, Girona, Catalonia, NE Iberian Peninsula, UTM 31T DG7477, 395 m, 7h April 2011. It's possible to know, the sex, or maybe which species could be, looking at the black patches in the wing? (Then how can I rename the picture of the fly to stand with the correct name, as we needed to accept...) |

It is a female, but I am not familiar with the Mediterranean fauna.

hi, I tried with Lindner's series and it seems a "dark-legged" M. bipunctata, but all the pic seems dark, can anybody tell me if those keys are still valid? I suppose that's a difficult question thanks anyway for your atention - edit: I see now M. bipunctata doesn´t appear at Fauna Europaea, I´ll look for synonyms Edited by paqui on 19-08-2011 20:13 |

I have been studying macrocera species and, following Séguy 1940: 1) Ailes couvertes d'une pilosité microscopique uniforme, sans poils plus longs. (even if that is not visible the other way runs to a cul de sac) 2) Ailes tachées, au moins une petite tache brune. 3) Ailes à extrémité claire. (From now on plus Landrock in Lindner 1927) 4) Wings not only avec Une tache sombre près de la base de la cellule cu 1 + Une tache sombre à la base de la cellule r5. r1 not widened at the top ! Abdomen: tergites avec des bandes basales pâles!. Ailes sans tache costale.! Macrocera inversa (= bipunctata). Edw.!!
