Photos taken in woodland near Guisborough, North Yorkshire, UK, on 2013-09-12. Is this a Sphegina sp, or a Neoascia sp, or something else?

clunipes... Why not elegans ? What is the differences between these two species ?  |

S. elegans has yellow humeri. S. clunipes does not... However colour in Sphegina is not always as it 'should' be. I have S. elegans in collection which have dark humeri. The other difference is that S. elegans has a very long and thin second abdominal segment. The segment here is sshorter and thicker. That would make it S. clunipes. Greetings, Ectemnius |
