The jury is still out on canariensis on the Iberian Peninsula, let alone France. As Carles-Tolrá indicated, the body colouration is not decisive. Peninsular specimens with the over all colour pattern agreeing with that of canariensis turned out to have speciosa type gentitalia. Earlier 'confirmed' specimens here in the forum mostly were identified on the basis of the collour pattern rather than on the basis of the genitalia. In addition, I made a remark on the differences in the genitalia noted by Carles-Tolrá (http://www.dipter...ost_293950). If record from Turkey was also based on color pattern rather than genitalia (seems most likely) it could well be possible that this is the same kind of speciosa as found on the peninsula. Could you all do me a favour and collect all Milichia speciosa like flies you see this year and send them to me. Not just in the Iberian Peninsula but also from other parts of Europe. It would be nice if we could get specimens from the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands, more central or eastern Mediteranean areas and from the central belt of Europe (France-Alps-Hungary).
