Is it possible to tell the genus and species of this female?
Photo taken on 1 September 2015 in Kokkola Finland.

Thanks.

The key by Stuart Ball (http://scathophag...agidae.pdf) lists several Cordilura species seen in Finland (cp. pp. 79-103); however, the most important characters are the male genitalia. Nevertheless, you should check C. ciliata - the description on p. 90 sounds good!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
