It looks darker than my previous photos but it had just come out of the freezer and so was probably a bit damp when I photgraphed it. |

Just a follow-up to say that I met-up with tristram yesterday and the specimen is a very nice male Linnaemya picta - the male genitalia are very distinctive  That extends the range of this species a lot further west of all previous records

Thank you, Chris. I feel relieved to have it confirmed. It's been over a year since my first photo and it would have been a quite a let-down if it had turned out to be L. tesselans after all. Today I was over at Chazey Wood, which is roughly half-way between here and your haunt at Hartslock Nature Reserve. I saw nothing that looked anything like a Linnaemya, neither picta nor tessselans, even though I spent 3 or 4 hours searching. Edited by tristram on 30-09-2012 18:33 |
