Personally, I think both are picta - but Chris will want to see a specimen as it will extend the known range of the species in the UK quite a bit.

And to think I had it walking around on my thumb! I even had my net and plastic containers with me at the time. Never mind, I'll go up there again tomorrow and see if I can catch the little blighter.

Would be very interesting if we could confirm this as picta - not just because we are interested in its range but also because they seem to have had a bad year this year ... as always, with tachinids, a specimens tells 1000 words Wink

I have seen a few females at ivy (Hedera) flowers this weekSmile

I have changed the title to Linnaemya picta as Chris has confirmed that another specimen taken from the same area was picta snd not tesselans. See here: http://www.dipter...ost_217403
