Do you have picture of thorax from side view? There are two possibilities: Palloptera umbellatarum and Toxoneura modesta. P.u. seems to be more probably according to wing color pattern, but I am not absolutely sure without seeing setae on thorax from side view...

No, sorry, this is the only picture I could take.

There are two possibilities: Palloptera umbellatarum and Toxoneura modesta.

Interesting, thanks! I did not know of Toxoneura modesta. I guess this is a newer synonym of Palloptera modesta?
Best regards,
Jürgen

Yes, Jürgen. I follow the nomenclature of Ozerov. T. modesta = P. modesta. I will chek my collection inthe museum tomorrow and maybe it help us to identify your animal exactly.

So, for 95%, you can call your animal P. umbellatarum, Juergen!

Hello Juergen,

In Toxoneura modesta there is no spot on the anal vein. So T. modesta is not an option.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
