From my garden yesterday near Copenhagen, Denmark. Thousands of them on certain leafs on the bushes and foraging on Solidago. Walther Gritsch has guided me to Scatopsidae, is it possible to go to species?

Thanks in advance

I wonder what they are doing on the leaves, eating something?

Such aggregations at this time of year usually are Apiloscatopse as are these, indeed. I cannot check their identity without my keys, though... Scould be picea or scutellata.

Paul, I checked in the key of Freeman & Lane. I think it is A. scutellata. Femora are all black.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
