Hello!

Found this female Tabanid on the dustbin at our house today (Ostwestfalen/Germany). It was medium sized, larger than a Haematopota, but smaller than the bigger Tabanus species. Is it Tabanus bromius? Thanks!

Interesting to see all color variations of T. bromius. In the gallery I've put brown, grey and black varietys, with thorax and abdomen in the same color. Now this one has got greyish thorax and brown abdomen ...

Right, the colouration is very variable.
However, it is never bluish grey.
Bluish grey = T. maculicornis

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
