Can anyone identify this large cranefly? Several were out today in a water meadow looking for mates. Wiltshire 10.4.10 nick upton attached the following image: [138.93Kb] Nick Upton - naturalist and photographer |

My guess is Tipula lateralis. It is an early species. Cp. http://www.bugsan...tml#TipLat. Regards, Sundew |

Many thanks Sundew, form online photos I have now checked, T. lateralis looks just right and as well as the early emergence, the location is correct also - on damp water meadows next to a stream. Nick Nick Upton - naturalist and photographer |
