Hi, This little fly came in my kitchen last Tuesday. It doesn't look like flies I'm used to meet here, but I'm not even able to have an idea of the family...     11th July 2006 - Saint Apollinaire (21), France 6 mm (measured) from head to rear of the abdomen. Sciapus euzonus (Loew, 1859) [Psilopus] ** Type locality: Italy: Sicily. Palaearctic: France, Italy, Spain, Czech, Yugoslavia, ?Morocco, Algeria * Nikita, euzonus is most probable ID for the C and S France. But there are too many species with simple legs... Igor Grichanov |

Hello, I have one doubt about these Sciapus; Faune de France´s descriptions separate: - S. euzonus: antennae completely yellow - S. algirus: endarkened tip of antennae Does anyone know if that´s still valid? Thanks for your atention |

5. Tarse 1 : article 5 blanc. (Algérie, Espagne). . .. algirus MAcQ. (Faune de France) It is black on pictures, not white. As for my experience, 3rd segment of antenna always darker than preceding two in Sciapus (at least orange). And the colour is variable. Nevertheless, a specimen is necessary to study. Oh sorry, with "these" Sciapus I was meaning not just the one of this post, but also another one, I didn´t explained myself clearly, I should have linked it before, sorry. Here it is the one I doubted about http://www.insect...earch.html , I was not sure about it´s tarses' colour, so i tried with the antenna, not a good character, then.
