Katka, which are the main differences between Sapromyza and Sapromyzosoma? For other persons who are reading us : Quadricincta in Latin means four = quadri; cincta is plural of cinctus and means "girdled" So four spots in abdomen girdled around. Edited by jorgemotalmeida on 17-01-2009 22:54 |

Hi Lars and Jorge, Sapromyza has occipital seta inside the triangel, Sapromyzosoma outside. All species of european Sapromyzosoma have spots on abdomen (but some Sapromyza too). Sapromyzosoma quadricincta (=bipunctata) have only two spots on abdomen, S. quadripunctata have two. Katka |

It was perfectly clear. I'm glad I was almost right about the meaning of cincta punctata means dotted / with spots.. ok.. |
