Katka, which are the main differences between Sapromyza and Sapromyzosoma?
For other persons who are reading us Smile :
Quadricincta in Latin means four = quadri; cincta is plural of cinctus and means "girdled" Grin So four spots in abdomen girdled around.

Hi Lars and Jorge,
Sapromyza has occipital seta inside the triangel, Sapromyzosoma outside. All species of european Sapromyzosoma have spots on abdomen (but some Sapromyza too).
Sapromyzosoma quadricincta (=bipunctata) have only two spots on abdomenPfft, S. quadripunctata have two.

It was perfectly clear. I'm glad I was almost right about the meaning of cincta Smile

punctata means dotted / with spots.. Smile ok..

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
