Habitat is a sandy Wadi at the most extremist desert area, located in the Arava Valley (Rift valley) at east of Israel (on the border with Jordan).

March is ideal time in this area. not so hot and flowering at the peck in the sandy grounds (The sands keep moisture for long time)

not sure about the genus. More later I will see with care. But family is 100% sure. Wink The other fly is intriguing me and it is another fly out of this world!

This is a female Cyrtisiopsis melleus (Loew, 1856). However, there are probably undescribed species lurking.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
