Hello, Is it possible to get species level for this small Dolichopodidae found near Paris ? I think the genus is Dolichopus, but not even sure.

Nearctic: USA: California; Palaearctic: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania; S Russia: Alania, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachai-Cherkessia, Stavropol?; N Russia: Karelia, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov; Russia: European part, Altai; Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey; Ukraine: Crimea, Kherson; "Yugoslavia" * Sympycnus The two synonyms were included in some country lists as distinct species, but I do not know reliable characters to distinguish them. Sorry for the late answer, I'm just back from holidays. In Fauna Europea the accepted name is Sympycnus desoutteri Parent 1925. No doubt about this ID ? |

Some dipterists distinguish 3 sister species, Sympycnus pulicarius (Fall?n, 1823), Sympycnus annulipes (Meigen, 1824) and Sympycnus desoutteri Parent, 1925, but giving no reliable distinguishing characters (e.g., hypopygial characters). Some others (including myself) consider them synonyms. In the latter case Sympycnus pulicarius has a priority (Meuffels, 1981).
