I've shot this small big-eyed fly (about 3 mm) at September 1, 2005 near St.-Petersburg. At first glance, it resembles Pipunculidae, but I'm not sure. Sorry for bad image quality...Sad Is it enough for identification? Next summer I'll try to take better photos with macro-lens.
Thank you in advance,
Dima.

It's been a while since I looked at the Platypezidae, but it could well be Paraplatypeza atra.

Thank you, Paul!
These eyes look even bigger than eyes of big-eyed flies! Smile
Dima.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
