This is a fly see on Euphorbia flower on may.
Perhaps Tephritidae ?

Interesting and very nice picture!

The closest I can come so far is Hypochra albipennis, a member of the picture-winged flies (family Ulidiidae, formerly Otitidae). Needs confirmation, though.

Okay, not Hypochra albipennis but an Otites species, most likely O. lamed. I have no furtherinformation available yet, but I'll keep you posted.

There is still the description of a similar Central European species to check, but this is indeed most likely Otites lamed.

I have just returned from Greece with ... lamed.
Lamed should be easy (according to Seguy, ...)
because of the bristlets all the way long on vein R1.

Good luck

You are completely right, but unfortunately, that is not always visible on the photos. Wink

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
