Hi !

Center of France, 2.11.2014.
A large and brownish subcostal cell and 2 strong parallel setae on scutellum apex and I am not sure even the family !
No more pictures.

I did not find H. oculata but it looks also like H. atricornis, don't you find ?

Atricornis means "black horn." That photo shows black antennae. The photo here shows pale antennae.

You are right John and I just find a female H oculata with red antennae.
So you confirm Stephane diagnosis : H oculata possible.

Eugene, first, change the title to attract the Heleomyzidae experts !
Indeed, H. atricornis has black antennae, a darker scutellum and a frons with parallel borders.

Done for the title.
I have no picture of the face but the top of head looks like H. oculata.
The space between eyes is narrow.
