Larva from the Netherlands?

Here you can find a fotograph of a larva, found in September 2007, on the table of a kitchen in a house somewhere in the Netherlands.

Can someone help me to identify this larva? It is about 10 mm long, but I don't have more information (excuse me).

I know it is difficult, but is there anybody with an idea?

PS: I didn't take the picture myself and I don't know the name of the photographer.

It's a Lepidoptera (moth) caterpillar - probably a stored products pest, possibly a pyralid. Identification of these is achieved by examining the seta (small bristles) on the body segments - not possible from this photo. Sad

I clicked on "Here" - (first word in your first post) and up came the image on my screen. Wink
Or do you mean "How do I know it's a pyralid caterpillar?" - because of its shape, apparent size, colour, texture, context (and having seen lots of stored products caterpillars over the years).

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
